Inter coach Antonio Conte discussed the Nerazzurri’s 1-1 draw against Napoli and their elimination from the Coppa Italia in a press conference earlier tonight, after the game. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

First, he discussed how the team started the game with an advantage, with Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen scoring after only two minutes.

“We could have been more deadly, we created a lot but scored just one goal. Then Ospina was the best player on the pitch for Napoli, with incredible saves. And he was also the provider for the assist for the goal. He had a fantastic performance.”

The former Juventus and Chelsea coach touched on how it felt to have five substitutions at his disposal.

“Well, it’s certainly a situation adopted to try to give the players more breathing space as we’re expecting something crazy at a footballing level, because thinking about playing so much between June and July is not normal.

“It will be new, the five substitutions can give players breathing space and allow us to take fewer risks in terms of injuries. But the important thing for us is that beyond substitutions, whoever comes in knows what to do.”

Conte wasn’t able to predict which team between Napoli and Juventus would win the cup next week.

“Honestly, at the moment it’s hard for me to think about it, there’s the bitterness and regret because we deserved this final. I hope it will be a beautiful final, congratulations to both.”

He spoke about the work he has been doing with Eriksen, who appeared different tonight compared to how he played when he arrived in January.

“We’ve been working on it, as well as the system that allows him to integrate at his best. We worked tactically and physically. He’s done well, I’m happy for him, and I’m sure he’ll continue to do so.”

Conte spoke about the Nerazzurri’s season so far and whether he considers it a successful first season in charge.

“It’s not for me to assess it. I think there has been an important growth from all points of view, most of all Lautaro and Bastoni.

“My job is to raise the level, improve the players and make them competitive to win. You don’t begin winning titles overnight especially when you haven’t won for nine years. I’m happy with these guys, the road is the right one and we will make Inter fans proud.”

Finally, Conte spoke about how it is different playing games behind closed doors, with no fans present.

“We have to be focused and do the best we can regardless. We’re sorry to play without a crowd, but there’s this situation and we have to adapt by playing the same way.”
