Inter are prepared to let Uruguayan veteran Diego Godin leave for free in the summer, only one season after signing for the club, according to a report from Italian media outlet Calciomercato.com earlier today.
The report details how the 34-year-old Uruguayan defender joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer last summer, signing a three-year deal after his contract expired with Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
Despite the high expectations, Godin has struggled in Italy in his first season, failing to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system and not impressing in a back three.
Lyon are interested in signing Godin, the report continues, and they have guaranteed him a starting spot. The Nerazzurri would be willing to release him for free in order to relieve themselves on his €5 million annual salary, which is also considered too high by the French club. Godin now has to decide whether to negotiate a lower salary with Lyon or to try and impress next season in Milan.
