With the exception of the elimination at the group stage of the Champions League, Antonio Conte’s first year in charge of Inter has been vastly different to Luciano Spalletti’s final year in charge of the club, according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Conte’s first year is a whole world away from Spalletti’s final year in charge in several categories but that is not to say that there has not been other negative moments in Conte’s first campaign, the most recent being the elimination from the Coppa Italia at the semi final stage.

Inter crashed out 2-1 on aggregate and Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta was not pleased as he felt the team could have went on to win the final against a tired Juventus.

Although not completely out of the equation, the report explains that talk of winning the Serie A title is blasphemous and it also adds that Conte will try and win the Europa League, which will be finished in August.

The report concludes that a luxury transfer market will be required if Inter want to take the next step and with the likely sale of Lautaro Martinez, funds will not be lacking.
