Andrea Ranocchia is in with a shout of getting a rare start in this coming weekend’s match at home to Sampdoria according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The veteran central defender has found playing time extremely limited this season but could start this weekend at San Siro against La Samp due to Stefan de Vrij’s uncertain physical condition.

Despite his lack of playing time, Ranocchia is a key figure in the dressing room and is a highly respected member of the team.

The Italian is in fact the only player currently on Inter’s books to have won any silverware with the club and the report adds that what he says in the dressing room carries a lot of weight.

This season the 32-year-old, who has a contract with the club until the end of next season, has made seven appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored a single goal.
