In an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV prior to kick off at San Siro between Inter and Sassuolo, Inter midfielder Borja Valero has admitted that the heat they will be playing in cannot be an excuse.

“It was hard to stay away from everything, it was a dark period for people’s lives. I was lucky enough to be able to return to the field despite the absence of our fans, but at least we can play again and we hope to do well,” he started the interview.

He then discussed the temperature, which is sitting at around 30 degrees at the moment in Milan: “It will not be easy for anyone, we have the same difficulties and it cannot be an excuse.”

Next the veteran Spaniard spoke on the style of play of tonight’s opponents, who come into the game off the back of a 4-1 defeat to Atalanta this past weekend.

“They play very well and the manager has them play an attacking style of play but before the game I can’t say anything more.”

Moments later the veteran spoke to sports broadcaster DAZN and added: “We have done a lot as a group in these months in which there have been many problems and we said that we have a small chance that we could make it [winning Serie A] come true.

“Now we have played the game against Sampdoria and now we will play the remaining games as if they were finals.”

The 35-year-old is in the starting line-up tonight for Inter and will be making his 17th appearances across all competitions to date and his 10th start.

In his time on the park so far, which totals just under 900 minutes, the former West Bromwich Albion player has scored a total of two goals.
