Inter manager Antonio Conte has admitted he is happy that the team never took the foot off of the gas in their emphatic 6-0 triumph over Brescia this evening.
Inter went ahead early doors thanks to Ashley Young, Alexis Sanchez doubled the lead and Danilo D’Ambrosio scored Inter’s third on the brink of half time.
Roberto Gagliardini scored soon after the second half started and Christian Eriksen and Antonio Candreva finished off the rout with goals of their own nearer the end of the contest at San Siro.
“There is certainly satisfaction. We were good at winning but I liked the attitude of the team that never stopped, always looked forward keeping the foot on the accelerator. We have scored many goals and have not conceded any. This thing must give us satisfaction,” he remarked in an interview with sports broadcaster DAZN following the match.
Next he was asked what positives can be taken from the match.
“Looking at Inter there are always many, then it depends on whether you want to look at the glass half full or half empty. For Inter you want to look at the glass half empty and create problems, but for me there is no problem. Attack me instead of the players or the club. ”
Conte then proceeded to be asked how he is managing striker Lautaro Martinez, who has been continually linked with a potential switch to Barcelona.
“You cannot fault his commitment. In a match like this he deserved a goal due to the opportunities he created. He deserved satisfaction.
“I am calm, I know we have this mini-tournament to do and I know I have good, professional guys who love Inter. All players have their qualities and their defects but they are splendid boys.
“They work hard and in the game sometimes they can make mistakes and I am sorry because sometimes we are seriously careless and that has made us lose points.”
He then proceeded to sing the praises of Alexis Sanchez who put in a man of the match performance with him grabbing a goal and multiple assists.
“Sanchez was signed due to his quality. In the first half of the season we played with Lautaro and Lukaku without any suitable alternatives and sometimes let Esposito play.
“Now Alexis is fine, he is not at his best but he is on the right track. Against Parma he came on with the right attitude and I liked it, today I have seen great commitment on his part. Having three strikers now makes me feel more relaxed.”
The former Italian national team boss proceeded to discuss how much this team can grow.
“We have to finish the season in the best way, then sum things up. We are working hard, we have also taken advantage of this period of forced parking to propose something different than at the beginning.
“Honestly, since we started again, I have liked the team because I have proposed certain ideas and situations that we are trying again. Sometimes the result does not go your way and you are penalised and it seems that everything you are doing is negative.”
Next he praised Victor Moses, who ran Brescia ragged and put in a top performance.
“I’m happy, he was with me at Chelsea. If he is physically well he is a player who can be a protagonist. He had difficulties because he had several physical problems in Turkey, but he is an important player.”
In conclusion he spoke on the team as a whole.
“In terms of this team’s heart and generosity I have nothing to complain about but we need to make few mistakes and naivety has sometimes cost us on a psychological level.
“We can grow in this regard as this team is still quite young. Let’s focus from here to the end of the season, then let’s see what happens.”
