Inter manager Antonio Conte could leave his post as manager come the end of the season according to Italian journalist and Italian broadcaster TeleLombardia director Fabio Ravezzani.
Conte has come in for some criticism as of late with Inter having developed a real tendency to throw games away by being unable to kill games off despite having many chances to do so and this inability has proved costly for them, especially lately.
“I got the news before the game, that the owners would have already decided not to continue with Conte even before the game in Verona,” he explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Radio earlier this morning, reported via PassioneInter.
“At the base of this, there’s a stiffness that has ensued at the heart of the Chinese owners after some of Conte’s statements these past few months. With Chelsea it ended badly for similar reasons. I report the news to you together with Momblano. A piece of news we will have to work on.”
Ravezzani proceeded to dismiss Conte’s recent claim that he had to settle for a pre-packaged package when he became Inter boss this past Summer when he succeeded Luciano Spalletti.
“He talked about an Inter package, but 12 players arrived and eight left. It is an unacceptable justification, Inter has been turned inside out like a sock.
“The watershed match was one against Barcelona, they passed the group stage with a 1,6 point average, and he was unable to deal with the backlash from this. There has been a great dislike from the owners who do not accept to be questioned, a decisive thing to close the relationship.”
He was then asked about Conte’s contract, which runs until 2022, and who could replace him as manager of Inter should he go on to leave after just a season in charge.
“Knowing the economic power of Suning, his salary would not be an obstacle in ending the relationship. The manager’s instructions were followed on the market, it was not the same squad that Conte took over. Plan B for Inter after Conte? Allegri obviously.”
Allegri has been out of work since leaving Juventus at the end of last season and has been linked to numerous other jobs.
