Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti remembered the birthday of Nerazzurri legend Giacinto Facchetti in a post on his Instagram page earlier today.
Facchetti was born in Treviglio on this day in 1942, near Bergamo, and spent the entirety of his 18-year playing career with Inter, from 1960 to 1978. He was moved from a forward role to the left-back role, where he shone and became a core part of the Grande Inter squad. The Italian made 637 appearances across all competitions for the club, for a total of 57,309 minutes.
In that time, he scored 76 goals and helped the club win four league titles, a Coppa Italia, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups. He was also a key part of the Italy squad from 1963 to 1977, winning the European Cup in 1968 and placing second in the 1970 World Cup.
Zanetti remembered Facchetti in what would have been his 78th birthday on Instagram, saying: “You are always with us, your example every day at our side.”
