Borussia Monchengladbach could activate a clause to extend Matthias Ginter’s contract to deter interest in his services from elsewhere according to a report in today’s print edition of German newspaper BILD.

Ginter’s current contract with the club is due to expire at the end of the upcoming season and the Bundesliga club have a clause which enables them to extend his contract by a further season.

The 2014 World Cup winning central defender has drawn links to Inter as well as Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea.

Should Borussia Monchengladbach trigger the contract extension clause, clubs could well be put off from pursuing the 26-year-old as that extra contract year will bump his price up.

This season Ginter, who has been with is current employers since the Summer of 2017, made 36 appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park, which totalled just over 3200 minutes, he scored one goal and provided two assists.
