Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has revealed that he and his teammates achieved what they set out to do by recording a win over Napoli.
Danilo D’Ambrosio put Inter ahead shortly after the game began at San Siro and Lautaro, who came on as a substitute during the second half, scored Inter’s second goal with a fine curling effort from distance.
“During the week we talked after the Genoa game and we said that we wanted to win to stay in second place. We know that another team has won the title and we want finish as high up as possible,” he began an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV, a short while after the full time whistle was blown.
The Argentine national team striker, who put an end to a four game goalless drought by scoring, was then asked if his goal in the match was the most beautiful that he has scored since joining the club back in the Summer of 2018.
“In the friendly against Atletico Madrid last year and in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund and Slavia Prague I scored beautiful goals. It is difficult to choose between them but this was certainly very beautiful.”
In conclusion the highly rated 22-year-old touched upon Inter’s upcoming and final Serie A game of the 2019/20 campaign which comes on Saturday away to third placed Atalanta.
“We have to get on well in the match with Atalanta. We will work well in the next two days to get ourselves prepared and do what it takes to win and keep a hold of second place.”
