Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has revealed that contract talks with defender David Alaba are going well.
Alaba has just under a year left to run on his current contract with the German giants and there has been no shortage of media speculation regarding his future.
The Austrian national team player has been linked with potential moves to Inter, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona in recent weeks and months.
“Talks are going well, but now is not the time to talk about it. The tension is increasing here in Munich for Saturday’s game,” he explained in an interview with German broadcaster Sky Sports Deutschland earlier on today.
“We are only focusing on the match against Chelsea but at some point a decision will be made, and when it arrives we will communicate it.”
Salihamidzic then went on to admit that as much as Bayern Munich want to keep Alaba at the club, the final decision will ultimately come down to the player.
“Here at Bayern we all want David to stay here. We will try to do everything, let’s accelerate and not just talk about it. It is obviously David’s decision whether to stay here or not but if he stayed we would all be very, very happy.”
This season Alaba, who has been with Bayern Munich since 2008, has made 38 appearances across all competitions to date. In just over 3300 minutes on the park, 28-year-old Alaba has scored two goals and provided a total of two assists for his teammates as well.
