Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has shared his hopes for former club Inter to win the Europa League and Bayern Munich to win the Champions League.
“I spoke last night with Beppe Marotta, a dear friend of many years, and I told him that I hope for an exceptional weekend during which I hope to be able to celebrate my two favourite clubs,” the German explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, which was aired a short time ago.
Rummenigge proceeded to state that there have been no further talks with Inter over Ivan Perisic, who is currently on loan at the Bundesliga club.
“Have we spoken on Perisic? Not yet, we said that when the season ends we will talk to the player and decide what to do.
“He had a good season, he’s not spectacular but he is always good. Against Barcelona he scored the second goal, then he provided an assist against Lyon. He is a useful player and temperamentally he is fine with us.”
Rummenigge proceeded to discuss recent media speculation in Italy and Spain which has suggested Inter have an interest in signing Barcelona captian Lionel Messi, who is said to be considering his future with the Blaugrana club.
“I sincerely hope he stays at Barcelona. There are players who should finish their careers where they started, then it is obvious that now he is sorry for losing against us 8-2, which is a very strange result. Messi deserves all the respect, he would probably do very well for Inter and Serie A but I hope he stays there.”
In conclusion Rummenigge wished Inter well for their Europa League final tonight against Sevilla: “I wish you good luck, I hope you win. I will watch it on TV.”
The 64-year-old spent three years of his playing career with Inter between 1984 and 1987. During his three year spell with the club he made 107 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored 42 goals.
