Inter striker Romelu Lukaku will be out to match the goal tally that legendary former Inter striker Ronaldo set in his debut season for the club in tonight’s Europa League final against Sevilla according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
Lukaku has 33 goals to his name this season, his first as an Inter player, and he requires just one goal to match the tally that Ronaldo managed in the 1997/98 season.
Lukaku could of course even surpass Il Fenomeno if he manages to grab himself a brace in the final at the RheinEnergieSTADION, just like he did in Inter’s 5-0 Europa League semi final success over Shakhtar Donetsk.
Reaching Samuel Eto’o’s tally of 37, which he set in the 2010/11 season will however be a lot more difficult for Lukaku to reach.
The report concludes by highlighting that Lukaku has previous goalscoring experience against Sevilla with him scoring Manchester United’s only goal against them in the Europa League a few seasons ago.
