A report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper la Repubblica has drawn similarities between Antonio Conte’s issues with Inter and Juventus’ problems with former coach Maurizio Sarri.
The report details how both coaches are known for their specific preferred style of football, rarely deviating from the system in any major way. Despite winning the league title with the Bianconeri this season, Juventus still dismissed Sarri because they didn’t want to continue with his project, although it was clear from the beginning what he would want to do. However, it’s equally true that Sarri should have known what to expect in Turin.
A parallel can be drawn to Conte’s position at Inter, the report continues, as the 51-year-old Italian coach knows the Nerazzurri well from his time as both a player and manager, knowing it would be different from his experiences at Chelsea and Juventus. The Nerazzurri also knew what type of system Conte would play and what type of players he’d want to sign, but still signed him anyway despite the differences in approach. This shows the added value of a coach like Massimiliano Allegri, who is malleable.
