Former Inter director Ernesto Paolillo has praised Inter president Steven Zhang for the way in which he handled the situation with regard to Antonio Conte’s future with the club.

Following an outburst after Inter’s final game of the 2019/20 Serie A season Conte added to his list of public outbursts and this threw his future right up in the air.

Earlier on this week however Conte met with Zhang and club management to discuss the situation and it was decided that the parties would continue on together rather than go their separate ways.

“I am very happy that the affair ended well. It was well managed by the president, you don’t have to start all over again and this is a positive aspect for the players and fans too,” Paolillo explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Sportiva, on Friday evening.

“Conte knows how to correct the team. The important thing is that everything they said to each other they all said together, inside a villa and looking into each other’s eyes.

“When this happens it comes out stronger. The important thing is not so much that the great player are bought, but the players requested by the coach arrive and are useful for his style.”

Paolillo then went on to speak about Radja Nainggolan, who is set to return to Inter in the coming days from a loan spell with fellow Serie A club Cagliari.

“Nainggolan? I doubt that he can re-enter the Inter project again. They knew about his problems, they should not have gotten him. Talent is not enough, you need to know how to behave off the pitch. It reminds me a bit of the situation of Adriano.”

In conclusion Paolillo spoke on Lionel Messi and the ongoing media speculation linking him with a possible move to Inter.

“There aren’t many teams able to afford him. Whilst he has a high cost, he would increase revenues. If he arrives to become a revenue generator then he will pay for himself.”
