Cagliari Sporting Director Carta On Inter’s Radja Nainggolan: “It Would Be Important For Us To Continue Our Journey With Him”

Cagliari sporting director Pierluigi Carta has admitted that Cagliari would like to sign Radja Nainggolan but there are currently not the conditions there that allow them to do so.

Nainggolan spent the 2019/20 season on loan at the Sardinia based outfit from Inter and has since returned to Inter following the expiration of the loan at the end of last month.

Despite the Belgian midfielder now being back at Inter, Cagliari have not given up hope of signing him again and Carta is just one of a number of Cagliari exexcutives to have spoken on the club’s desire to have Nainggolan back at the Sardegna Arena.

“Today Radja Nainggolan is not one of our players, so we don’t have the ball in our court. He is an important player who many teams want,” Carta explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport 24, earlier on today.

“If we had the financial availability and that of Inter to do a deal, it would be important for us to continue our journey with him.

“We know what he can give also in terms of leadership. We are interested but we have no element that can make us think of an imminent arrival.

“Last year he chose us despite having many suitors. There were many possibilities but certainly the romantic side in him prevailed. On our part there is complete availability.”

During the 2019/20 season, Nainggolan made 29 appearances across all competitions for Cagliari. In his time on the park, which totalled just under 2300 minutes, the 32-year-old scored six goals and provided seven assists for his teammates.
