Antonio Conte, born 31 July 1969, is an Italian professional football manager and former player. He is the current head coach at Serie A club, Inter Milan.

Footballer To Manager

As a midfielder, Conte began his football career as a player at his local club, Lecce. He later transferred to one of the most famous Italian clubs, Juventus, becoming one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.

His career as a manager started in 2006, with Bari. He led the team to a title in the 2008-09 Serie B season, and then went on to coach Sienna in 2010, leading the team to a division promotion in just two years.

Conte Goes Home For A While

In 2011, he accepted the role as lead coach at his former club, Juventus. Under his leadership, the team played a 3-5-2 formation and earned three consecutive Serie A titles. During this time, Conte was awarded the Trofeo Maestrelli, awarded to the top three best performing coaches in the professional league, the youth coaching system, and outside Italy.

In the last season, Juventus under Conte’s leadership won the title with a record-breaking 102 points. He then resigned from his post in July 2014 because of the team’s disappointing performances in the UEFA Champions League, and Juventus fans mourned his decision.

Conte And The Stars

Conte then took up the challenging role of managing the Italian national team. He led the side to ten consecutive wins and was appreciated by many Italian fans for his efforts.

Conte expressed his desire to return to club football after Euro 2016, and he resigned as the Italian coach. In April, of the same year, he joined Chelsea FC.

In his first season, he led the team to the Premier League title with a record-setting triumph, losing only 8 of 38 matches. Chelsea went on to win the FA Cup in his second season, and in January 2017, Conte became the first manager in football history to win three consecutive Manager of the Month awards.

Conte was dismissed as the manager for Chelsea in July 2018, citing the reason for his dismissal as the poor performance that year. The club ended fifth in standings and failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Conte’s contract was set through 2019, which meant the club had to pay a total of 26.6 million pounds as compensation for his early dismissal.

Conte Leads Inter Milan

In May 2019, Conte was asked to join the Serie A club, Inter Milan, as the head coach. Inter won its first match under the leadership of Conte with a 4-0 win against Lecce. The team also reached the finals of the Europa League but lost 3-2 to Sevilla in August 2020.

Inter also missed the chance to take home the Serie A title by only one point when Juventus bagged the win.
