Sampdoria are cautiously optimistic about their chances of signing Inter wing-back Antonio Candreva according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Il Secolo XIX.

Candreva has yet to give La Samp a definitive answer to the three year contract worth €1.6 million a year that has been offered to him and the report explains that this is because with there still time left in the transfer window and the player wishes to see if any other clubs come forward.

Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta is insistent on receiving a sum of €3 million for Candreva, something they could get from a club other than Sampdoria, who have only offered €2 million.

Despite this, Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero recently stated, ‘We’re almost there’ with regard to completing the signing of the former Lazio winger.

Last season Candreva scored seven goals and provided nine assists for his teammates in 40 appearances across all competitions.
