Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni did not particularly impress in his first game as the central defender, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the 21-year-old Italian received his first start as the central defender in the back three, with new arrival Aleksandar Kolarov lining up on the left side.

Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij was suspended and so the young Italian was thrusted into his role, but showed that he was not fully ready to hold down the role.

The 34-year-old Kolarov appeared rusty, with the speed of the Viola’s players further highlighting his limits.

Croatian forward Ivan Perisic, deployed as a wing back in yesterday’s game, also did not fully convince, although he will continue adapting to the role.

Bastoni made 33 appearances across all competitions last season for the club, for a total of 2560 minutes. In that time, he scored two goals and provided one assist.
