Inter and Cagliari have made a breakthrough in talks for Radja Nainggolan after the Rossoblu decided to offer a loan with an obligation to buy for €12 million, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sportitalia.

Nainggolan has been left out of Inter’s matchday squad for tonight’s Serie A fixture away at Benevento, officially due to pharyngitis.

But his future appears certain to be elsewhere with talks ongoing for his return to Sardinia.

The clubs are expected to agree a deal quickly now that Cagliari have agreed to offer an obligation to buy.

Nainggolan has made 37 appearances for Inter since joining in 2018, playing the final 15 minutes of Saturday’s 4-3 win at home to Fiorentina.

He scored six goals and provided six assists for Cagliari last season as they secured a 14th-place finish in Serie A.

Inter will pull two points clear of Juventus in the early league table if they can defeat Pippo Inzaghi’s newly-promoted side at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito tonight.
