There is a need for a hierarchy to be established in the Inter midfield department according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

Despite their best efforts to trim down the midfield before the transfer window closed yesterday, Inter find themselves with eight midfielders and just three midfield positions up for grabs in the starting line-up.

Inter were in negotiations with Cagliari over Radja Nainggolan up until virtually the last minute of the transfer window but they were unable to come to an agreement as Inter remained firm with their demands of at least €10 million for him and to sell him outright or move him on in a loan with obligation to buy deal.

Matias Vecino, who drew links to Napoli, remains on the sidelines due to injury and he is also on the sidelines of Inter’s project and therefore unlikely to be included in Inter’s UEFA squad list registration.

A way for the abundance of midfielders to be managed needs to be found and a hierarchy needs to be established. The great puzzle in all of this remains Christian Eriksen.
