Legendary former Bayern Munich and Peruvian national team striker Claudio Pizarro has revealed that he supported Inter as a child.

“When I was little, a lot of German and Italian football was on television in Peru. That’s why FC Bayern was my club as a child. I loved Bavaria, I always went with them in front of the TV at home,” he explained in an interview with Bayern Munich’s official club website.

“I also liked Inter Milan, they were my two favourites. Only I didn’t have any jerseys, unfortunately. That didn’t exist back then, it was out of reach in Peru. It’s different today.”

The 42-year-old, who only just retired from playing at the end of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season, has since been named a Bayern Munich club ambassador.

Pizarro started his senior playing career with Peruvian club Deportivo Pesquero back in 1995 and got his move to Europe in 1999 as he joined Werder Bremen for what would be the first of five spells with them in his career.

His first of two spells with Bayern Munich began in 2001 and lasted until 2007. He made 174 appearances in this time, scoring 71 goals. In his second spell between 2012 and 2015, he scored 16 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions for the German giants.

Last season Pizarro made 19 appearances across all competitions for Werder Bremen and scored two goals in his time on the park.
