AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is planning to start Italian defender Alessio Romagnoli in the derby against Inter next weekend, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The report details how the 25-year-old Italian centre back, who is contracted to the club until 2022, has been suffering from a calf muscle injury since July, which has forced him to miss 10 games so far.
The Rossoneri captain has recovered from his injury and has been training with the squad in recent days, with Pioli now planning to start the player against the Nerazzurri in his first game back.
The reason that the AC Milan coach is prepared to take the risk with Romagnoli is because of the limited options in the department.
Matteo Gabbia has recently tested positive for COVID-19, joining Leo Duarte who is also recovering from the contagion. Mateo Musacchio is out with an ankle injury and so will be unavailable.
