Ex-SPAL Coach Semplici: “Inter Have Already Closed The Gap To Juventus”

Former SPAL coach Leonardo Semplici spoke about Inter’s work in the transfer market and their attempts to close the gap with Juventus in an interview with Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb two days ago.

“Inter had an important transfer window. They were already a very good team and have been completed with spare parts.”

He suggested that, whilst Juventus are still the favourites for the league titles, that other teams could still look to make a difference this season and potentially upset the Bianconeri.

“The favorite remains Juventus, but Inter have come closer. This year also Napoli have made good moves, then there is also Atalanta that have had a great market.”

Inter confirmed coach Antonio Conte’s position in a meeting at the end of last season and quickly changed their transfer market policy to match the requests of the 51-year-old Italian.

The arrival of experienced veterans like Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal and Bosnian defender Aleksandar Kolarov, as well as young talent Achraf Hakimi, has helped the Milanese club to close the gap with the Turin based team.

Inter’s first meeting with the Bianconeri is after Christmas, and so Conte will have to guide the team to a strong finish at the end of the calendar year in order to put pressure on the Bianconeri and their inexperienced coach Andrea Pirlo.
