Highly rated Atalanta wing-back Robin Gosens has revealed why he ended up staying put at Atalanta in the recently concluded Summer transfer window.
After a top 2019/20 season, Gosens found himself linked to a whole array of clubs in the transfer window, including both Inter and Juventus but in the end he stayed with the Bergamo club, who he joined back in the Summer of 2017.
“I have always said I would only leave for a project that was 100% for me,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, which was broadcast earlier on today.
“I know that this season I have to play continuously if I want to go to the European Championship and it is an honour when great clubs are looking at you. I’m happy to have stayed.”
The 26-year-old German was then asked about the race for the Serie A title and asked who he thinks the current favourites to go all the way this season are.
“The Scudetto is a great word, we are thinking about one game at a time. My favourite is Inter, they have the strongest squad.”
This season Gosens, who is contracted to Atalanta until the end of the 2021/22 season, has made three appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park, which totals 249 minutes, he has scored one goal and tallied two assists.
