AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has decided not to start either Samu Castillejo or Braham Diaz against Inter this evening in the derby, according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.
The report details how the Rossoneri will instead deploy 21-year-old Portuguese forward Rafael Leao as the third man, behind Swedish veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The decision by Pioli to deploy Leao is because he is looking to contain potential dangers like 21-year-old Moroccan wing back Achraf Hakimi.
Both Castillejo and Diaz will start this evening’s derby on the bench, but could appear if needed.
The return of 39-year-old Swede Ibrahimovic is key for the Rossoneri, as the veteran is both a leader on and off the pitch and will be clinical in front of goal against his former team.
Leao, who is contracted to the Rossoneri until 2024, has scored two goals in his first three appearances across all competitions this season.
