Former AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani discussed the Rossoneri’s important 2-1 derby win over rivals Inter in an interview with Italian broadcaster Rai 2 yesterday.
“If you go on the pitch with 6-7 starters you are inevitably a different team. I’m a huge AC Milan fan, but speaking as a person working in sports, maybe Inter with Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni would have been a different team.
“Like Zlatan Ibrahimovic would have eight goals and not four if he had played the other two matches. This is a lottery, we all have to live with Covid.”
He commented on the idea of implementing an NBA style bubble to protect the players and ensure the regularity of the season.
“It is difficult to do more than what you do, whatever you do is wrong because the subject is too complex.
“The bubble went well for the NBA in a very limited period, but how do you keep the players in a bubble for nine months?”
The Monza executive touched on how a vaccine is needed to truly solve the issue, with organisations only able to do so much.
“Until the vaccine arrives this virus will haunt us. More than that, nothing else can be done, doctors need to understand where the outbreaks are coming from.
“I am afraid when the players go outside, but I don’t want to say anything so as to avoid controversy. I think it’s difficult for Lega and FIGC.”
Galliani spoke about the Rossoneri’s incredibly strong start to the season and how understated the reaction is. The Milanese club are top of the league table with 12 points, four wins out of four.
“Milan has been in the lead for sixteen days and I don’t think I have read about it in any newspaper. After the lockdown there were twelve games, AC Milan finished first and now they have started again first winning all the matches between the league, friendlies and the Europa League.
“I do not know the future, I note that Milan is first for sixteen days and it is strange that nobody comments on it.”
Finally, Galliani spoke about 39-year-old Swedish veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The former Paris-Saint Germain and LA Galaxy forward scored both goals against Inter in the derby on Saturday.
“Ten years ago, we won the last derby at home against Inter and there was Ibra, 1-0, I remember a penalty with a foul by Materazzi equal and identical to the one committed yesterday by Kolarov.
“Ibrahimovic is extraordinary.”
Inter will need to bounce back after their disappointing derby defeat to AC Milan. Their next game is against German side Borussia Monchengladbach in their Champions League opener.
