Inter have confirmed moments ago via a statement posted on the official club website that wing-back Achraf Hakimi is in fact negative for COVID-19.

Just hours before Inter’s Champions League group stage opener against Borussia Monchengladbach European football’s governing body UEFA notified Inter that the Moroccan had tested positive as part of their testing protocol.

Inter re-tested Hakimi, who was completely asymptomatic after his positive test result, and have now confirmed that the result of this test is negative. The player will be re-tested to confirm his status.

If Hakimi again tests negative, it would leave Inter with three players who are currently still COVID-19 positive in central defender Milan Skriniar, central midfielder Roberto Gagliardini and back-up goalkeeper Ionut Andrei Radu.

Hakimi joined Inter in the Summer transfer window in a €45 million, including add-ons, deal from Real Madrid. He has since went on to make four appearances for the Nerazzurri club, in which he has scored one goal and provided two assists for his teammates.
