Former Inter defender Antonio Paganin discussed the Nerazzurri’s strong 2-0 win against Genoa yesterday in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster TMW Radio earlier today.
“It was a solid match, like a top team. A good response after Wednesday. It was a team that wanted to win and did what it had to do.”
He commented on whether coach Antonio Conte is focusing on the Champions League or the league title this season.
“Knowing him, I think he wants to win both. In Europe, however, it is difficult to repeat what is done in the league, we see clearly how Atalanta are doing, who fell in Napoli and against Sampdoria.”
The 54-year-old Italian touched on how the Covid-19 pandemic and the extended season has affected this season and the competitiveness.
“In this period, with only one month of preparation and without a pre-season, there will be many ups and downs. The bar has risen a lot.”
Finally, Paganin spoke about how Inter’s level has risen and the game was well fought.
“It was saw today against Genoa, even if they are affected by Covid. Once unlocked, it was well played by Inter. You can’t always play well, so it’s good to bring home games like these in a dirty way.”
Inter are currently third in the league table after five games, sitting two points behind rivals and league leaders AC Milan, who can extend their lead with a win against Roma tomorrow.
The Nerazzurri’s upcoming match is against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in the second game of the Champions League group stage on Tuesday.
Shakhtar won their first game of the competition against Real Madrid in Spain last week, coming away 3-2 winners.
