From tomorrow onwards Italian football stadiums will again close their doors to fans, with Italian prime minister Giuseppe Conte issuing a new decree to combat the rising cases of Covid-19, according to a report from Italian media outlet PassioneInter.com.
The report details how the new decree explicitly prohibits fans from entering inside sports facilities, taking effect tomorrow.
Sporting events and competitions that are not ‘of national interest’ will also be suspended, as Covid-19 cases continue to surge across the Italian peninsula.
Fans were slowly being allowed to return to stadiums, with a maximum of around 1000 in place, but now games will again only be viewable at home.
Italy is currently in the midst of a second wave of the contagion and the government are working hard to avoid a second national lockdown, which could be disastrous for the economy and also Italian football, which stopped for many months earlier in the year.
