Romelu Lukaku needs to score a goal in the next two matches in the Champions League to equal record for consecutive matches a player has scored in with regards to European competition, according to today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Belgian national team striker has scored at least one goal in each of his last nine games in European competition and the current record belongs to Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo who scored at least once in 11 straight games in European competition.
Lukaku is currently sitting level with Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski but could become the outright second best if he scores in Inter’s match against Shakhtar Donetsk this evening.
The report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to explain that Lukaku has the third most goals scored this season for both club and country.
Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland has 13 goals for club and country this term whilst Lewandowski has 12. Lukaku is sitting on 10 goals for club and country this season, the same amount of goals as Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane.
