Italian football journalist and transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Inter will discuss a contract renewal with Lautaro Martinez’s representatives in the coming days.

Multiple reports in the media as of late have suggested that negotiations have been ongoing for several months and as per Di Marzio, another meeting is to take place just shortly.

“They will talk about it in the next few days, the appointment was at the end of the transfer window so they will talk,” he explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, this evening.

“I don’t think a long-term renewal will be decisive in making the player less attractive on the market. Maybe it will give the Nerazzurri club more strength though.”

Di Marzio then went on to discuss the release clause which is in Lautaro’s current contract with Inter, which expires at the end of the 2022/23 season.

“The main argument is the release clause, it will be necessary to understand if it will be eliminated from the contract. In this moment of general crisis €111 million is a lot to spend but regardless of this moment of crisis he remains highly appreciated by both Barcelona and Real Madrid.”

Di Marzio proceeded to speak on Christian Eriksen, whose struggles at Inter are still going on almost a year after his arrival at the club from Tottenham Hotspur.

“He’s not fully integrated into the system yet but he’s training well otherwise Conte wouldn’t let him play. There is something still missing in his approach with the mentality of the coach which is very clear.”

Di Marzio then went on to discuss what happened at the end of the transfer window with regard to Eriksen’s future with Inter.

“In the last days of the transfer market, Inter did not open up to the idea of loaning the Dane,” he continued.

“Clubs in Germany such as Hertha Berlin and Dortmund were interested. If the situation were to remain like this, we could also think of another solution, but Inter made an investment in the player, not only on the transfer fee but also with his salary.

He concluded by adding: “It remains to be understood if the club will look to insert him and look to see if a love between him and the team blossoms. The problem is the inclusion in the field, there is no problem with Conte.”
