Legendary Italian football manager Fabio Capello has shared his belief that Inter are the favourites to go on and win this season’s Serie A title.
The Nerazzurri club have made an alright start to the 2020/21 Serie A season and head into this weekend’s Serie A action sitting in fourth place in the standings with 10 points to their name from the opening five matches. They trail current league leaders AC Milan by a total of three points.
“In my opinion, the Nerazzurri are the favourites to win the title. The advantage over the competition comes from having a year of work with Conte behind them and then their squad has depth, they have two teams as Conte wanted,” 74-year-old Capello explained in an interview with Spanish news outlet AS, which was published on their online edition.
Capello was asked what his expectations for Inter’s upcoming match against his former employers Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage.
“It will be a very interesting match. Real will certainly have more confidence after the victory against Barcelona, but Inter have also returned to winning ways against Genoa.”
The former England national team manager was then asked if he thinks it will be a balanced match between the two sides, who have gotten off to worse than expected starts in the competition.
“Yes, of course. Madrid are still Madrid, but at the moment they are not at their usual level. There are problems in defence, just like Inter have but Real must beware of Lautaro and Lukaku. Especially Lukaku. The Belgian has strength and speed, he protects the ball well and turns quickly.”
