Inter are not happy with their players being called up for international football amidst the current climate and schedule, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how the Nerazzurri have lost Italian midfielder Stefano Sensi, Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez and Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku all to muscle injuries, with the players being clearly overworked considering the schedule.

Inter’s season ended in late August and started barely a month later, giving the players an incredibly short holiday and time to prepare for this season.

Combined with the current Covid-19 climate, Inter are unhappy that their players are still being called up for international games.

CEO Beppe Marotta discussed the situation after yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Parma, saying:

“We must try to limit the matches, because otherwise it is difficult to manage the teams. We have a great opponent, Covid. And it is right to have caution towards the players.”

Many have criticised UEFA’s decision to continue the Nations League, especially considering that this summer’s European Championships were postponed to next year, giving little importance to these games.
