Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has revealed that the club have withdrawn the contract renewal offer that they tabled to long serving defender David Alaba.
Alaba’s contract with the reigning German champions and current Champions League holders is due to expire at the end of this season and it has been widely reported that there have been several rounds of contract renewal negotiations, all of which have been unsuccessful.
“We have decided to completely remove the offer from the table. This means that there is no more offer,” Hainer explained in an interview with BR – Watch TV, as quoted by German news outlet Süddeutsche Zeitung.
“Of course, we need to plan for the future. I want to say once again we really appreciate David, he’s a lovely guy, he’s a fan favourite and that’s why we will have regret if we have to go our separate ways at the end of the season.”
Various reports have linked Inter, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona with moving for him on a free transfer basis given his expiring contract status.
With the contract renewal offer having been withdrawn, and it currently unclear as to whether a fresh offer will be extended to him, everything certainly suggests that the Austrian international will walk away from the Allianz Arena for nothing at the end of the campaign.
