Legendary Inter midfielder Nicola Berti has called for more from current Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal, a player who he believes must also lose some weight.
Vidal joined Inter in the most recent Summer transfer window from La Liga outfit Barcelona following a long courtship but has not exactly performed to expectations in every game that he has played for Inter in the time since.
“First of all, he is not scoring goals, as he did at Juventus. He is a player with experience and quality. I really like him, but he has to do more,” Berti explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport’s podcast ‘Gazza Talk’.
“He has fantastic character, he’s a dragging force. In my opinion, he must lose a couple of kilos. I say it openly, it is the truth. He’s a champions & it’s right that one remembers that.”
The former Italian national team player then went on to suggest a reason as to why Vidal may not be playing to his full potential at the moment.
“Perhaps he misses the fans, which is the spectacle of this sport. Players with character need this but, if I look at Barella, who is 23, when he plays it seems like there are 80,000 people there.”
Berti spent 10 years of his playing career with Inter between 1988 and 1998, during which time he made 312 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored 41 goals and tallied eight assists for his teammates. He also won five trophies with the club.
