Noted Italian football journalist Luigi Garlando has penned an open letter to Inter manager Antonio Conte following his comments after yesterday’s 1-1 draw away to Atalanta, a result which only prolonged Inter’s poor run of form at the moment.
Following the match in Bergamo, which Inter had opportunities to win, Conte urged those who claim he is lacking in fury this season compared to last, to remove the alcohol that they are drinking from the table and shared his hopes to no longer hear such suggestions, which he labelled as nonsense.
“Dear Conte, I am among the critics who have found less fury in you and, consequently in the team, than in the past,” he began his open letter which was published in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Thank you for your thoughtful suggestion. I assure you that I drink with absolute moderation, but not taking the wine off the table, Coach. It’s good and does you good. It is an antioxidant, fights cholesterol, slows aging and then, you know, in vino veritas.
He went on to conclude: “In fact, even yesterday his Inter (1 win in 8 games) there was no fury to close a game that they had in their hands and to break Atalanta’s dribble which led to a draw.”
Conte is in his second year in charge of the Nerazzurri club and has managed Inter in 63 matches across all competitions to date. Inter have won 35 of these matches, drawn 17 and lost the remaining 11 of them.
