Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has revealed that Monza chief executive Adriano Galliani is something he has always looked up to.

“The esteem is mutual, I have always seen Adriano as an example to follow, being younger than him,” he explained in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV, following this afternoon’s friendly between the two clubs.

“I tried to imitate him. I think we both had a good career starting at the provincial clubs. I met him in that famous Monza-Varese with a Lanese referee that ended with a Varese victory.”

Marotta was then asked about the many meetings that he and Galliani have had throughout the years from transfer negotiations to Lega Calcio meetings and whether any of the meetings particularly stand out for him.

“I can say that, gravitating between Varese, Monza, Como and Milan, I was with him very often with my mutual friend Braida. We often saw each other in the gloomy Milanese evenings when we went to eat spaghetti.”

Marotta then cast his mind back to when he was part of the management team in Monza and the importance of that time toward his growth as a professional.

“I must say that for me it was a fundamental experience for my growth. First of all because Monza was a forge of coaches, players and managers.

“I arrived a few years after Galliani had left, the common denominator that binds us is President Giambelli. I grew up professionally with him, it was an experience that served me well for the future.”

In conclusion, Marotta congratulated Inter’s Chinese cousins Jiangsu Suning on winning the Chinese Super League for the first time in their history after winning the Chinese Super League final 2-1 on aggregate against Guangzhou Evergrande. Their success was also the first success enjoyed by a Suning owned club.

“We hope it will be a good omen for Inter. Yesterday we congratulated the Zhang family for this very prestigious achievement. I hope it’s a sign of things to come for us here in Italy because the Zhang family, the fans and the club deserve it.”
