Inter forced Serbian full back Aleksandar Kolarov to miss out on his nation’s vital Euro 2020 playoff against Scotland earlier this week, which they lost, according to a report from Serbian media outlet MozzartSport.
The report details how the Nerazzurri forced the player not to feature in the Euro 2020 playoff because of his physical condition. He arrived in poor fitness to the Serbian camp, muscular problems that forced him to miss the Nerazzurri’s league clash against Atalanta.
For this reason, Inter did not want Kolarov’s condition to get worse whilst playing for Serbia, the report continues.
The situation was only known a few hours before kick-off, upsetting the plans of coach Ljubiša Tumbaković, who had regularly used the player in a three-man defense ahead of the Scotland clash.
The Serbian coaching team only learnt of Inter’s request three hours before the match. The player, whilst greatly disappointed, did not want to start a dispute with his club, and after the match obtained permission to return to Milan.
