It is always nice to keep an eye out for former Inter Milan players and monitor how their careers are going around the world.
Many ex-Nerazzurri players are now excelling at some of the biggest clubs in Europe. However, we’ve decided to look at three who may be operating under the radar outside of the major European leagues.
Romanian George Puscas joined Inter Milan as a youth player and later went on to play for the first team on seven occasions. In 2019, he was sold to Reading where he continues to feature in the Championship (the second tier of English football).
Puscas may get the opportunity to shine in the Premier League next season as his side top the Championship table as of the November international break. The Royals are 8/1 in the Championship betting to get promoted this season. They will be hoping their former Inter striker can fire them to the top-flight in England.
Although Puscas didn’t quite cut it in Milan, he is only 24 years old. He scored 14 goals in all competitions last season for Reading where he looks to have found a club he is enjoying playing for.
Between 2001 and 2006, Obafemi Martins represented Inter on 136 occasions, scoring 49 goals in that period. The Nigerian then went on to excel in the Premier League for Newcastle where he was a real fan favourite.
At the age of 36, Martins is still doing what he does best, scoring goals. He currently plays for Wuhan Zall in the Chinese Super League. His experience is proving invaluable for the club who finished sixth in the standings last season.
One of Martins’ finest moments in an Inter shirt came in the Champions League in the 2002/03 campaign. He scored against Bayer Leverkusen which helped the Italian club advance through to the quarter-finals of the competition.
It is great to see Martins still going strong. He has had a brilliant career and a large part of that came in Italy with Inter.
When Ever Banega joined Inter Milan on a free transfer from Sevilla, it was considered to be a real coup by the club. The Argentine had a wealth of international experience for his country and was a consistent performer in La Liga. Sadly, he didn’t quite show his best football during his 13 months spell.
Banega is now playing his football in Saudi Arabia for Al Shabab. He is one of the standout players in the league and that is showing as he has scored two goals in his opening three matches for the Riyadh-based club.
It is a little bit of a surprise to see Banega play outside of one of the major European leagues as he is just 32 years old. He featured 43 times for Sevilla last season, helping them to lift the Europa League for a record sixth time.
The man who wore the number 19 shirt at the San Siro will probably look back on his spell at Inter with regret. He will, however, remember the hat-trick he scored against Atalanta, his first of his professional career.
Good luck to all three of the above players and all those who have featured for Inter throughout their careers.
