Former Inter striker Christian Vieri has shared his belief that Inter are equally as strong as reigning Serie A champions Juventus.
Juventus have reigned supreme in Serie A for almost the last 10 years and this season Inter are very much expected to seriously challenge them for the title, even though neither club have started this campaign how they were expected to.
“I believe that Juventus still have the strongest squad, but leagues are not won indefinitely and they have already won nine in a row. There always comes a moment when a streak is interrupted,” Vieri explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition of the Milanese news outlet.
Vieri, who spent six years with Inter between 1999 and 2005, added: “Inter, who are equally strong, have not won for a long time. They could have more desire, more hunger. It is a strange season, looking at the standings today is useless.”
Vieri was then asked whether he thinks current Serie A leaders AC Milan are capable of maintaining the pace that they have started the season with.
“It is too difficult to answer now, but it is easy to say what AC Milan must do. The one thing they must do is to live for the day, match after match, with your head free. It will depend on many things, because 38 matches are so many.”
In conclusion the former Italian national team forward was asked who will be most decisive this season between Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo, AC Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Inter’s Romelu Lukaku.
“I say Ibrahimovic. By this I don’t mean that he will score more than the others, but for the goals he scores, the assists he invents and the charisma he has and makes available to his teammates will be what will affect the performance of his team the most.”
