Inter coach Antonio Conte spoke to gathered reporters in a press conference earlier today, after the Nerazzurri’s important 4-2 comeback win over Torino. His words were collected by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“We did not have the attitude of a fierce team that wants to beat the opponent from the first minute. We started by saying we wanted to do one thing and then doing something different when the game started.

“I have smart guys who understand when something is missing. My job is to make them understand independently, sometimes with a stick and sometimes with a carrot, when to change their attitude.”

The 51-year-old Italian coach touched on the squad’s attitude in the game.

“Surely our attitude in the first 60 minutes was not one of a fierce team that wants the three points, then it changed and this is the glass half full.”

The former Italy and Juventus coach commented on how the team still need to work hard to improve, and make the games more difficult for their opponents.

“We have to work because beyond the technical qualities, tactics and how you prepare for the game you have to raise your heads make the game hard for the opponents.

“We have room for improvement in this and compared to last year we have lost something from an attitude point of view that we have to find again, the old and the new.”

Finally, Conte spoke about the importance of Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal and if he is satisfied with the player’s performance in a more advanced role.

“I would be satisfied with him even if I put him in goal. He is so important that he could play anywhere. It is born from the fact that he has important realizing skills, he is a player who likes to attack.

“In midfield we are unbalanced because many players have similar characteristics and Arturo can also adapt to be a central midfielder, although I think his role is to give freedom to others. He has finishing and goals in his DNA.”

The Nerazzurri’s next game now is against Spanish giants Real Madrid in a key Champions League match.

Antonio Conte’s side have not won a game in the competition so far, and must look to earn three points from the upcoming game if they want to look to progress to the next stage of the competition.
