A report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport analysed Inter coach Antonio Conte’s decisions in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Sassuolo.

The report details how the 51-year-old Italian coach needed the squad to display a firm response after their disappointing loss to Real Madrid earlier this week in the Champions League.

The differences in yesterday’s game were the defenses of the two teams. Sassuolo made two early mistakes, leaving them 2-0 down after only 14 minutes, leaving Conte’s squad in control.

Inter conceded little thanks to a different approach compared to their last two games and kept their third clean sheet in 13 games so far across all competitions.

Conte decided to shore up the defense a little, playing essentially a five-man backline. Ivan Perisic and Matteo Darmian would align themselves with the back three when out of possession, creating greater defensive solidity.

The removal of a trequartista was also key, as Inter were more compact and gave more space to their opponents.
