Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has admitted that provided that they won it did not matter how they performed in last night’s UEFA Champions League group stage win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
Inter took an early lead in the match through Matteo Darmian and Lukaku scored a brace which helped Inter to a huge 3-2 win, a win which gives Inter a chance to play for qualification for the knockout stages in next week’s group stage finale with Shakhtar Donetsk.
“We needed the three points, we came here with the aim of winning the game,” he explained in an interview with European football’s governing body UEFA’s official broadcaster UEFA TV following the match in Germany.
“It was not important whether we played well or played badly, what counted was getting the three points, we are very happy.”
Lukaku then went on to discuss Inter’s recent turnaround in form and what he hopes the win over Borussia Monchengladbach will represent for himself and his teammates.
“We have achieved two victories in a row, first in the league and now here. We must continue like this.
“In recent weeks we have had problems both in the league and in the Champions League, but we hope that this win will be the turning point of the season and will lead us to be more consistent.”
This season the Belgian national team player, who is under contract with the club until the end of the 2023/24 season, has made 11 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 11 goals and provided two assists for his teammates.
