At worst, Inter will make it into the knockout stages of the Europa League if they are to win in next week’s UEFA Champions League group stage finale with Shakhtar Donetsk a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport highlights.
Inter beat Borussia Monchengladbach last night, a result which has given them a shot at qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Inter must beat Shakhtar Donetsk and the match between Real Madrid and Borussia Monchengladbach must not end in a draw in order for the Nerazzurri to progress in the Champions League.
Whilst Real Madrid and Borussia Monchengladbach could both get through by playing out a draw, this would be a huge risk given Shakhtar Donetsk have the potential to overtake them both if they draw and they beat Inter.
The repot goes on to add that in any case Real Madrid will be playing for all three points in their final group stage match in a bid to finish what has been a disappointing group stage campaign with some dignity.
