Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio has insisted that Inter have an obligation to get past the group stage of the UEFA Champions League ahead of tomorrow’s final group stage match at home to Shakhtar Donetsk.

All four sides in group B are still in with a shot of qualification for the next round and in order for Inter to qualify they must win and hope that the other group stage match between Real Madrid and Borussia Monchengladbach does not end in a draw.

“We are Inter and we are obliged to always get past the group stage,” he began an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, which was broadcast a short time ago.

“We will try to depend on ourselves by obtaining the three points, we must not allow ourselves to have greats.”

He then went on to discuss what has changed for the team in recent weeks with the team performing much more like how they were expected to pre-season.

“What has changed are the results of the last few games. We are more compact, but even before we played the games in the right way. We have played a slightly different style of football, but we were always masters of the pitch. We are getting what we deserve.”

D’Ambrosio joined Inter in the January transfer window of the 2013/14 season from fellow Serie A club Torino and he has since went on to represent the Nerazzurri club on no less than 220 occasions. He has scored 19 goals and provided 17 assists for his teammates during his time on the pitch.
