Will Inter Benefit From European Exit?

Inter crashed out of the Champions League following a 0-0 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk at Giuseppe Meazza.

The result epitomised a frustrating campaign for Antonio Conte’s men, who finished bottom of Group B and consequently failed to qualify for the Europa League. The Nerazzurri will now have to wait another season before being able to compete on the continent once again.

Conte has notoriously struggled in the Champions League in the past, failing to reach the semi-finals of the competition in spells with Juventus, Chelsea and now failing to progress beyond the group stage in his first two seasons at Inter.

However, there could be a bright spot to emerge from the disappointing result as the club can now turn their sole focus on Serie A and ending their 10-year title drought.

In Conte’s first season, the Nerazzurri reached the final of the Europa League, although it may have disrupted their Serie A title bid in the process, losing to Juve and Lazio in games around the last-32 games against Ludogorets Razgrad.

Had Conte and his team drew against Juve, they would have been able to close out the crown ahead of the Bianconeri instead of losing out by a point.

The current campaign has seen the landscape in Italy’s top-flight shift as Juve struggled in the early stages of the season to leave themselves off the pace in the title race, as highlighted by ESPN.com.

Milan took up the initiative to lead the league after 10 games, although it remains to be seen whether the Rossoneri have the staying power and the depth to remain their for the entire campaign.

Both Milan and Juventus still have commitments in Europe that will drain their players and resources in a tightly-packed schedule in the second half of the season. Inter have to be in a position to capitalise and there could be excellent value on them to win the crown, considering their current standing in the table.

As explained on Sportsbettingmarkets.com, Serie A is one of the most popular leagues to be on in the world and finding a good price for Inter to win the league will be a relatively straightforward task. The Nerazzurri have quality players and they will have a much easier workload than their rivals down the stretch.

Conte has a history of taking advantage of such a situation as he described on FourFourTwo.com. Chelsea did not compete in the Champions League or the Europa League in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues won the title with relative ease ahead of Tottenham, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal. Conte was able to limit his key players to only 40 matches, therefore, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa were operating at the peak of their powers when it mattered the most.

Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku can form the most potent strikeforce in the league when they are at their best, while there is ample support around them with Ivan Perisic and Alexis Sanchez in support.

The defence is well balanced with the addition of Alessandro Bastoni alongside Stefan de Vrij and Milan Skriniar. Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic are arguably the best midfield tandem in the division. Keeping his first-choice line-up fit and firing worked wonders for Conte at Chelsea.

Whereas Juve and Milan will be forced to no doubt chop and change due to the demands of European football and their domestic efforts, Inter should be able to field their strongest side more often than not.

It could well lead to the success that fans of the Nerazzurri have been waiting 10 years to relive again.
