Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has suggested a role that former Inter defender Mauro Bellugi could have at the club according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
Bellugi recently had to have both of his legs amputated due to COVID-19 complications and as per this report, Marotta told the 70 year-old, “There will always be a place for you in this club, maybe you could deal with relations with clubs.”
Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Sala, the mayor of the city of Milan, is meanwhile understood to have told Bellugi that the city would not forget him.
Bellugi started his senior career with Inter in 1969 and he played for the club until 1974, during which time he made 136 appearances. He then moved on to Bologna where he had a few year spell before moving on to Napoli where he spent a season before he played one final season with Pistoiese before retiring.
Since his retirement from playing, Bellugi, who made 32 appearances for the Italian national team between 1972 and 1980, went into punditry.
