Napoli have set their sights on signing Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian national team wing-back has played little this season and as per this report, Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli would like to sign the former Roma player on loan for the remainder of the season.

Emerson is ready to move to Napoli as he is aware of the fact that he must play and play regularly in order to stand any chance of being included in Italy’s squad for the European Championship’s next Summer.

Before being able to move for Emerson though, the report states that Giuntoli must offload Faouzi Ghoulam, whose salary is blocking him from moving for Emerson. By getting rid of Ghoulam, Napoli will offload his €3.5 million a year salary.

Emerson has also been strongly linked with a potential move to Inter for a considerable amount of time.
