Christian Eriksen has only himself to blame for his failure to settle in at Inter, according to former Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi.

The Nerazzurri are expected to sell the Danish international during the January transfer window after struggling for game time in the first half of the season.

Many supporters have blamed head coach Antonio Conte for failing to accommodate Eriksen in his rigid system, but Tacchinardi does not believe his former Juventus team-mate is at fault.

“The situation could certainly have been managed better,” he told TMW Radio.

“I’d give the majority of the responsibility to Eriksen and not Conte anymore.

“He had to try and give something more.

“He is a professional and he needs to do better.”

Eriksen has made 37 appearances for Inter in all competitions since signing from Tottenham last January, scoring four times.

Tacchinardi was then asked to analyse the Serie A title race and warned Inter not to rule out Juventus, despite the Bianconeri currently lying sixth in the table.

“Inter’s strength is not only the coach and the players but the entire group, including the club,” he continued.

“I have the feeling they will be there right until the end but perhaps not everything is working perfectly for them.

“I wouldn’t bet against a fightback from Juventus though.

“It’s true that Inter and AC Milan are travelling at a fast pace but whenever this team is criticised it manages to produce something extra.

“The only question mark is whether Andrea Pirlo has the mental strength to drag them out of a situation like this, but if he pushes the right buttons he has the strongest team in the league.”

Inter will return to action on Sunday when they host Crotone at San Siro, where they will be looking for an eighth straight win in the league after an impressive end to 2020.
